Planning a successful event is no small task.
While event strategists have the unique ability to make conferences and meetings flow seamlessly, they also have some of the most challenging jobs in the industry. The landscape for satisfying event attendees is complex—and maximizing the impact of key speakers is essential. To satisfy myriad audiences, often with contradictory needs, expectations, and learning styles, it’s important to think outside the box and not revert to “planning default settings”.
Having just launched my new speaker’s program Speaking Out Loud, I’d like to share some thoughts on how to create a deeper connection between speaker and audience, and committing to the “inform and inspire” approach.
I believe strongly in the power of engagement. Why not work with key speakers outside of their general session, adding multiple activities within your event—beyond routine book signings? You also can engage them for a master class or special session for your board of directors, or an interactive workshop for your industry’s emerging leaders.
After your in-person event, you can continue to work with your speakers for additional content, access to their articles and books, and help share their ideas throughout the coming months. Speakers have important things to say and want to share their ideas as broadly as possible beyond your gathering.
As we all lean into 2025, it’s good to remember that people crave connection, and that those connections can create engagement, keep people talking and build community all year round.
